The Market Decides . . .

When a standard—a market-driven-phenomenon—defines the need for a technology, it will incorporate the technology of one of any number of competitors. If a company refuses to release its technology to standardization, it could find itself relegated to a niche market even though it may have the best technology for the application.

It is to most companies’ distinct advantage to offer their technology to standardization.
